How does google sitemap generator retain past links?

I've been exploring the google sitemap generator for a site I'm working on. I have it set up properly (that I know of) and accessing the access log file to do the crawling (as per direction). What I am curious about is this: In Linux the access log files gets rotated and then eventually pruned. From the timestamp dates on the Linux machine, the access log files are rotated every 7 days. Does this mean that for the google site map generator the links in the xml file are only the ones accessed for the past 7 days?

    Would appreciate to know. Thanks!

    Tom
