How does google see URL redirects?

    I have a .com site
and I have also registered the .net domain name at namecheap.

Now, I have used the url redirect function of namecheap and redirected the .net domain name to the .com website.

Will google see it as duplicate content or what i have done is perfectly ok?

    Plz guide.

it depends on how namecheap sets things up. you should use an http headers check tool. it needs to be a 301 redirect.

it's probably best to just host the domain and redirect it yourself.

I checked the http headers from one website. Posting results below.
    Will this 302 be ok?

    #1 Server Response: http://www.abc.net
HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.1 302 Object moved
    Connection: close
    Date: Mon, 04 Dec 2006 11:22:38 GMT
    Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
    X-Powered-By: ASP.NET
    X-AspNet-Version: 1.1.4322
    Location: http://www.abc.com
    Cache-Control: private
    Content-Type: text/html
    Content-Length: 147
    Redirect Target: http://www.abc.com

google has explicitly stated multiple times that you should use a 301, not a 302, in a situation like this.

It doesn't matter how the redirect is implemented. As long as you aren't showing the same content on both domains it's fine.

301 redirect is the best thing you could do. There are lot of websites using these. Mostly premium websites. So don't worry at all. ;)
