google would profit through YouTube by getting there advertising revenue, which is probably ALOT considering how popular YouTube has become. Anyone know how many videos are on YouTube right now? number?
I read somewhere that YouTube wasn't that profitable for its original owners in the beginning due to bandwidth and ad blindness. No clicks to Google ads means no revenue (unless, of course, there are CPM ads). That being said, I think Google can harness their massive amounts of server space so that bandwidth isn't even an issue. YouTube is definitely profitable for them.
I'm pretty sure that it isn't for profit this time. This is a power game for future activities and to be set in that kind of media field with a strong presence.
As I said, its profitability right now may not be the point. it is the infrastructure for the future which they are concerned about.
Yes, Google probably isn´t looking for direct profits now...They are just looking to control media on the internet - they are hardcore power players..
Google didn't make money out of search for a long time. They do lots of things that help build their empire, it all helps in the long run.
showing ads in the video module would be worth millions. when you think of the number of people who use youtube's videos on their websites/blogs it has to be somewhat comparable with the traffic of youtube.com itself
That´s a good point too. They certainly have a stranglehold on most searching done on the internet... And when you control the information you basically control the net, in a nutshell. At least, this is what we´ve seen thus far.
