I always here Google saying that they reward quality content and other people talking about it, but I never here anyone explain what it is. Can someone explain to me what quality content is and how Google or any search engine can possibly detect it?

Quality content is exactly that, quality content. Quality content to Google would be content that is non duplicate, has the correct keyword density, includes keywords relevant to the topic. The easiest way to put it is Google wants content that is written by someone who knows what they're writing about.

Word of advice. It's much easier and much more effective to use ezinearticles as a source of writers who know their topic. For example; if you're in the dog training niche. Go to ezinearticles and find a writer who specializes in dog training and hire them to write your articles. Having random people who know nothing about your niche and paying them $3 for an article in my opinion is a waste of money. Most of these articles writers know absolutely nothing about keyword density, keyword relevancy, or SEO for that matter.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies! But when Mat Cutts and Google speak about the importance of writing "great content", are they referring to what you (quick free host) are saying about the proper keyword density and relevancy or are they trying to claim that Google can somehow tell the difference between a boring and exciting article?

Quality content is first and foremost unique content, not syndicated content, not content copied from elsewhere.

Ok, this all makes sense. What Google considers great content is original content.

They don't want you to worry or think about keyword density and relevancy. They want you to create content for your users and not the search engines. Informative, unique, attractive, personal, relevant content.... that keeps the users coming back.

Good content tends to attract links, hence why the algorithm is heavily weighted toward links.

Quality content compose of good writing, technically this article have a unique and interesting topics. Most of the content consider to have its keywords, no duplication and has significance with clear description, all pertain to what the writer is trying to discuss. Also giving weight to the most substantial that search engine want to crawl.

Google might define "quality content" as an informative, related article.

Quality of content can be determined if it provides the information that the visitors are looking for. To create a quality content, don't target search engine was looking for in a content. Create a content that the visitors looked for because what visitors are looking for are what search engine looks for.

Simple, Unique + Hot topic. Only unique would not work all the time, thing what if people are not searching your unique content.
