How does Google feel about exchange link pages?

It seems the easiest way to manage links to a site is a simple "you place my link on your links page and I will do the same" method.

With all the varying opinions on how Google views anchor text, backlinks, outgoing links to link farms etc... is the method above still viewed as "ok" by Google?

So how do you get one way links that are legitimate? Seems to me the only way is to get real people that like your website to mention it on their site unpetitioned.

Two ways links are still ok with Google specially if it's from/to related websites, but the best link you website could ever have is the ONE WAY link.. focus more on building websites with quality content that other websites will link to it by their own choice ;)

What you have described is call "Reciprocal Linking" and done quietly, could work. But when your competition finds out, they will rat you out to G.

When caught, you will recieve a -PR1 penalty (PR4 to PR3) and the link pages will be graybarred (no value). We used this concept for years and it no longer has any SEO benefits. Just risks.

    Points to consider:

After 3 years of reciprocal linking on my site, I gained ZERO page rank increase and the links that did show up were junk.

10 DP sig links create more value than any reciprocal link scenario.

Or one pr3 link will give you more Page Rank increase than all three years of our reciprocal linking.

And finally, higher Page Rank doesn't help you in the SERPs, so why bother with this BS.

    Hello...

Doesnt matter i suppose as google thinks the internet is a cesspool  :p

I would link to the most relevant sources and niche specific directories
for best results in linking in any engine.

    thx

I just asked this question in webmaster groups and got a answer that, we can link to other sites and other may link to ours if they find it worth linking as far as its is useful for the users of the site.

Limited link exchange will bring no harm.
