I was reading one of google's quality guidelines for ranking and it said this... I'm read some blog articles on this subject and have gotten a lot of info. I'm just curious about what you may think?
This topic has been in discussions all over and no one really knows a real answer on Googles views on Directories.
Hello, If it's on topic directories, it's even ethical to submit there. It's like having your business phone number in the phone book if you know what i mean. How much will those links help you in ranking on google, nobody knows for sure, but all links help more or less and none hurts. Just try not to get too many links too fast.
This topic was recently discussed last week http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=9715083#post9715083 thx malcolm
I voted yes but it really depends on the directory - there are millions out there and the quality varies so much. older, established directories will always have some value, but quickly set up template directories on dropped domains - is there much point? I doubt it.
If they where to STOP giving away FREE phpld scripts 2.0s (and others) there wouldnt be an issue and or thousands of garbage directories on the web. laterz malcolm
Here here malcolm. I am putting together a directory from scratch. It is taking AGES. My wordpress blogs have brought in income rapidly and 4 month down the line I'm still working on a unique directory. I just cant do with seeing the same template 100 times a day :-/
Directory submission will help especially for new site which has no link whatsoever. The worst thing can happen by building link from directory is google will considered it has no value. But google won't ban/de-list your site by submitting to million directories. If google ban site which has link submitted to million directories, we can just submit our competitor link and all of them will get ban. But as I stated earlier, it is not the case. Bottomline is directory submission may help a little but won't hurt your SERP.
I'm both a user and administrator of link directories. Based on what I've seen in my directory stats, directories do drive traffic to web sites, especially on long-tail keyword searches. From an SEO point of view I always submit new sites to link directories as a a sort of "SEO undercoat". I wouldn't go crazy with thousands of directories. Maybe 100 to 200 quality directories with reasonable PR and dofollow links is all you really need as a starting point for your SEO efforts.
I am sure google counts quality links from directory. If directory or directory pages has good page rank then obviously you will get benefits in terms of pagerank.
