Lately I have been reading about how there is a trust factor when it comes to who is linking to you and that some directories will link to anyone, therefore reducing their 'trust factor'.

So, does everyone here still submit to any and every directory?

How often do you take the time to submit to directories and for how long or how many at a time do you submit to?

i don't think it would do you any wrong to submit to every directory you can submit to. Because if it could harm you, then competitors would just submit your link to every directory right?

Just as with Link Building check out the directories for the Quality of their links. Who do they link out to? What do their backlinks look like? Are they all from other directories or link trading pages?
No. For work and personal sites I only submit to higher quality directories. I have a list here www webuildpages com/directory/ There are also some not on this list I also submit to.
I would only submit once every 6 months or so. Most directory owners are backed-up with submission. If you keep submitting it only makes the matter worse and annoys the directory owners. This is also an excellent time to figure out why you are not being accepted. Are you following their submission guidelines? Perhaps you need more orginal content. Make your site stand out from the crowd.

If you just have one site I would submit to a few quality directories a month.

Directory submissions is just one piece of the link development process. At least, for me it is. Here's a breakdown of the link development of a new site:

    - Press Release
    - Directories
    - Reciprocal Linking
    - 3 Way Linking
    - Article Submission
    - High PR quality paid links

That about sums it up. If I want to go further, I'll develop something unique about the specific site, like a game or interesting free application, and then send it out to top authority webmasters/blogs to gain one-way incoming links.

Their are a ton of places to submit press releases. Just do a search. :) As for news-worthiness...that depends on you. You can right about a new page you added on the site. If you've never done a press release for your site, it will be new news to everyone in the PR world, since it would be your first time doing a release.
