How Does Alexa Track Our Site Statistics?

    I have a question -

If a webmaster wants to check his site statistics he might sign up for analytics and insert the code into his webpage for tracking.

But how does alexa track all these without inserting javascript code ??:confused:

It's all to due with the alexa toolbar. Just ignore Alexa, it's pointless.

Think of the Alexa toolbar as "chunk of javascript". The more people that visit your website with the Alexa toolbar, the better your rank.

Alexa is just so inaccurate in it's ranking....as it tracks traffic using it's toolbar....and it does not consider the users not using it's toolbar :-(

    Because they're ignorant :)

Alexa recently changed their algorithm to make it even more dependent on the toolbar, almost everyone's rank turned for the worst. Even huge sites like Digg and DigitalPoint.

It would be good if Alexa had an option to use Javascript as well, that way you could get an accurate ranking.

The alexa toolbar helps them to keep track of sites

Didn't know Alexa chose rank via hits. They really should get a tracking script if so.

How they come to know about visiting sites status from toolbar . So this means our toolbars are connected to them indirectly and they can spy on us and know what we are searching and visiting :( .

You're opting in to install their toolbar. You can throw your tinfoil hat on and call it "spying", but they're really just collecting data about your browsing habits. You can always just.. oh, I don't know... remove the toolbar?

It bases the amount of visits based off who has the alexa toolbar if they dont have the tool bar, it wont count the visit

you think alexa is off. Try compete.com its even worse! And ya it is stupid that advertising companies require an alexa ranking when its so inaccurate
