Hello .. i have noticed that sites with less visitors than mine above mine in alexa ranking .. does alexa treat traffic to subdomains to establish the ranking of a site or does it ignore it?
Hi, First of all, Alexa is not directly measuring your traffic. The ranking relies on the people who have installed the Alexa toolbar. They give data to the company about which sites they visit. So if I would install the Alexa toolbar and I would visit my own site 1000 times a day... Its Alexa rank would probably go under 200,000 or maybe 100,000. This is why Alexa ranking is only "accurate" on bigger sites. Alexa doesn't make any difference for a domain or its subdomain. This is why we don't know what ranking mail.google.com or m.facebook.com has. Hope I answered all your questions... If not, don't hesitate to ask! Regards, Akos
Accurately described. The alexa rankings are not very accurate for small websites, though they give a rough idea for big websites. Although quite a lot of people use its toolbar, they are still limited. Being limited means that for some websites with very high traffic but with none of visitors having alexa toolbar installed would have a very bad alexa rank.
