Press Release is a written communication for the purpose of announcing something newsworthy. As "johnaustin9" says it helps you in building backlink and to generate traffic towards the website.

SEO press release is the use of keywords. The way an SEO press release works is through search engines like Google picking up on keywords in your article.

It's really important when you are writing your press release that you make sure it is news worthy and full of interesting facts. If you can answer who, what, where and why within your press release that's great. Adding a quote in from someone at the company also helps to make the press release accepted when you submit it via the press release distribution sites. When putting links into press releases it is best (in Google's view) to have naked URLs rather than anchor text links.

    Hope this helps!

Press release applies mostly to companies with a brand. It's usually information about a company, maybe an even they recently had, or a fund drive they are having. These are submitted to press release sites and news sites with a link back to the company site.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

It's definitely a strategy you should try using. If you have some interesting news to report about your company, it could result in a ton of high quality links. Basically you write up an article about your news event. Then you submit it to press release sites and insert your links. If it is newsworthy, it will spread to other sites and reporters might even cover the topic in a story. Keep in mind that paid press release distribution can get your release on much better sites. So don't assume the strategy doesn't work well when only using free sites.
