How do you keep track of websites that link back to you.

3 weeks ago I submitted to 70 some directories and haven't seen any of them show up with google query "link: <website>"

Is there a better way to keep track of this?

You are better chcking them in MSN then Yahoo

The only other way is to check your logs and if people have come to your site through them, it will be listed there.

Some of the people who do directory submission here also will hand check for you and provide the results in a spreadsheet.

Sorry if I repeat something that have been said already, but I, like many others, don't use the host stats and so I do not see the logs that often so I suggest you to use the MSN and Yahoo for links check.
    use the same command: "link://www.yoursitename.com"

I don't really track them. With directories it seems to be a hit and miss type of deal. Does anyone know any software that can allow you to track your backlinks?

Best way is to go and check them by hand, although this is very time consuming.

www.pagerank.net has a number of tools including a link popularity checker. It examines a range of search engines. I have found MSN to be the quickest on the uptake of such links, with google lagging behind (perhaps more cautiously).

You should find what you need here.
