How do you think, why Google became so popular?

Simple branding and keeping things simple!

Now they can do what they like and become a huge complex organization!

 

may be because I use it .... lol hehe

 

its not Pagerank or adsense or any kind of revenue that made it so popular.
google is known by every common man, even those who dont even know whats adsense.
in my country, only few people know what is adsense or PR etc, they just think google is world's best website where you can find anything, thats why they like google, cuz its really useful, even for a common man

 

I think Google made their home page free from ads....unlike many other famous search engines like Yahoo

Thats what made it load faster and the second reason might be their unbeatable search algorithm

 

It became so popular from viral marketing, everyone found out about it because they were told, and it spread

 

Simple...

They kept and continue to keep everything simple, powerful and free. Like shadowboxing said just above me, they are innovative and always improving to give "us" the user exactly what we need.

The name "Google" helped too

 

Simple starting page for the will to keep the same starting page for 10 years, unlike Yahoo, which has become cluttered.
Also, it doesn't hurt to have the most relevant search engine around, although Yahoo is catching up fast.

I think in any business the 2 most important keys to success ( in order ) are :

1- To dominate marketing and advertising
2- have a good Service/product.

 

Google has more and more money from day to day(developing services which are far from the advertisment (and they do it perfectly)), so they can handle any crisis, implement any crazy idea, and sunk any competitor. That the way it is.

 

Interesting idea. How do you think, does Google have some advertising department? They certainly have marketing department, but do they spend money for advertising? Do you think they make news about themselves and spread them?
