how do you tell where you are ranked?

I see people saying "I'm ranked 245" or whatever on Google. Is there a way to tell where you're ranked without typing in your keyword and scrolling through the endless pages of results on Google?

 

I use google sitemap - http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login to get my position on google. You can use showmoney's "tool" shoemoney.com/serps.html to check ranks of all SE's.

There are a number of tools that can run such queries, some of them are online, I think DP has a similar tool.

They're probably pulling the rankings from a different datcentre to what you're seeing.
