yes, alexa.com gives traffic ratings, but I do not know of one that will give information on direct hits. Generally if the site is ranked over 10 mil, it will have only a hundred or less hits a day. At a rank of 1k, the site will likely have around 10k hits a day

Your hosting company should have a stats package available like Webalizer, for example.

Personally, I prefer Google Analytics. Not only do I know how many visitors I have but I know what keywords and search engines they used to find me.

It's a very powerful and free option. Just sign up at Google.com and add some code to the web pages you want to track.

    Simple.

The problem with Alexa (IMO) is that it's only really going to give you an accurate representation of how many people visited your site with the Alexa Toolbar installed. At least that is my understanding. I have no way of knowing or guessing how many people have the Alexa toolbar installed but I'm reasonably confident that it does not come close to showing the actual visitor count for any given site.

I do enjoy watching my Alexa ranking go up, though!

AWStats over google analytics IMO for the fact that AW will read your raw server stats. cPanel comes with AW by default I believe, if not, it's not that hard to install on a server.
