What do you guys think about Title tag structure?

    I've noticed wikipedia structures theirs
    <title>Topic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia</title>

Which i thought was interesting given their great rankings.. Ive heard its good to put at least one keyword in the title, and sometimes make your title and header text a little different so the structure isnt identical (or perhaps overly seo'd).

    What do you guys think?

title must be short (the site name) and must be explain the content easily..

    <title>site name - slogan here</title>

. and meta "title" can support it :)

Its a good practice to include one or two keywords in the title tag. It really helps your ranking, and on page content can support it.

the title of the page is one of the most important factors in onpage optimisation... it's a MUST to add keywords to tiles...

but also make sure you don't simply list keywords, make something like a sentance/phrase, less than 8-9 words

100% agree with drhyperlaur, it's a must to have keywords in the title as it is very important to gain some good ranking but don't just spam it.

    I always use 60 to 80 characters.
    And description max 250.

There's not much value to putting branding or slogans in the title - users are searching for keywords instead. So, unless you've got a big name brand, drop everything but the keywords.

Put your keywords in your title tag, preferably the first words in that title. It doesn't have to be short. In fact, you can put variations of your keywords in the title -- plurals, different word order, similar keywords.

If you want your page tightly focused on a particular keyword, make the title tag contain ONLY that keyword, and nothing else. Of course, you'll want the content title to also be the keyword (H1 or H2 tag) and the content to contain the keyword frequently, but not too frequently.

I agree with Stackman's last post. Also ensure the H1 and H2 tags are near the very top of the page.

the best part of adding keywords in titles is that in addition to they helping your site getting a good rankings on google etc the same keywords or phrases become bold which in turn lead to more clicks as they become more visual plus attractive. Search "friend" on google and note how the term "friend" gets bold in title "Friend Finder". the same leads to high ctr. Try to believe.
