Other than taking my dog for obedience instructions, any other suggestions out there?

I had a dog that was chewing on our doorknobs. I rubbed some soap on the doorknobs and it stopped her. Ever had soap in your mouth? Ishh!

Well when my dog was small, he had the same habit of chewing things. But thats not a point to worry because, if you get your dog an artificial bone, you will automatiocally get rid of the problem. Its all because of their growing teeth nothing else.

well it depends on the situation...you can possibly stop your dog from chewing things, if you scold him the moment you have seen what he was doing or say "caught in the act"...so the dog would really understand that what he was doing was totally wrong..

Put a muzzel on him every time you see him chewing on something, he'll soon get the idea.

All those are good, how about screaming at the dog, try yalling at the dog in different languages, Try hitting the dog with a rolled up newspaper when you catch the dog in the act of chewing. Try different newspaper also, (The Wall Street Journal, New York Times) until you find the one that works.

Roll up a news paper and use it to smack the side of your leg, he will think that you will use it on him every time he does something naughty, and this should help him understand right from wrong.

It's a sign of boredom. Make sure she/he has things that are allowed to be chewed, such as chew toys or a leather bone. Keep obvious potential items that you don't want chewed (such as shoes) out of the way.

You can't stop your dog from doing that. Because it is the nature of the dog when they are growing to Chew from the items that they will see lying in your house. The best thing is buy him a toy to chew and let him to do his stuff. :)
