Hello Firstly, I couldn't post this question on "Sites Forum" probably because of my low post count. How do you transfer all the files to a buyer once you have sold your web-site? Say I create a site using Xsitepro and I sell it here on DP or Sitepoint how will the buyer be able to import it to his host? I just don't know how this is done Many thanks Tinman
To transfer files, you either upload it to their server or send them the files via email. For domains, they'll need to be transfered to the buyer as well (using an authorization code). (You should have these files in your computer already, if not you'll need to download them off your server)
Thanks 8everything I know how to push a domain its just the understanding of the file transfer. I use xSitepro to create my sites. Where will the files be located? Best Tinman
The files will be located wherever you have your site hosted (on their server). Once you obtain hosting you will have access to ftp and a control panel. This will vary depending upon who hosts your site.
Do you have FTP? (it's quicker to download/upload). If it's FTP , there should be a "WWW" folder with the files located in it.
When I sell a site I give all info to the buyer so he can handle of it himself. If the buyer is not able to....... i will help ofcourse
Some people actually charge money for the transfer.. but it all depends on the sales agreement. However, I help them regardless (without pay of course).
He does not need to transfer everything to his webhost. He can use your webhost (which you would certainly had pre-paid for a year) and you can contact the host to do the transfer of ownership to the new owner.
