I use IBP for their Top 10 Optimization Report which compares your site to the top ten sites for any given keyword. On google, one of niche sites is #1 but on Yahoo I only have 56% of the ranking requirements to get me on page one and on MSN I only have 35% of the ranking requirements. When I look at what they want me to do in order to optimize for that search engine, it directly contradicts what Google likes to see such as Yahoo Optimization said my Title was too keyword rich because the title is the keyword term I want it to rank well for. In Google, this is great, in Yahoo not so much. Yahoo also doesn't like my h1 tags being too keyword rich. So, I guess my question is, how do optimize my site for all three search engines? Is there a happy medium?
First and most important: Yahoo and MSN don't count. The traffic from SERP positions there is not good. Only optimize the page for Google.com and match the keyword count and density on the title and H1 tags. everywhere else, use the keyword once to start. As the page gets indexed, go to the next SEO element and then tune it. And stop wasting your Sig links. PM me for more information on this.
Create unique content - get valuable links - don't post duplicate content. A site that is always changing is a great site. Here is an article I put together about this sort of thing. articlesbase.com/seo-articles/search-engine-optimization-seo-top-10-tips-to-top-google-578354.html
you need quality content and content that is updated often on your site.Back links with anchor text relevant to the keyword you want to rank high on is also helpful
Get links. Links count whatever the search engine. Content is good too, especially as a way of getting links.
In the last 8 years of being involved in SEO I have learned from experience to always try to optimize for Google, if things go wrong and Google doesn't show me any love then my sites are usually loved by Yahoo and MSN... Just seems to work out that way With that said, there is one common denominator between all 3 of the search engines, and that is "Link Love" I can't stress it enough... Build High quality one way links at a reasonable pace and the search engines will come!
