How do you go about promoting an affiliate program? I'm thinking of buying up a few URLs, creating a few landing pages and experimenting with some PPC stuff. Is this the standard method most people use?

Other ways include experimenting in the land of SEO and trying for some natural traffic, you can rarely do much wrong it's more or less just a matter of how much you can do. If you can write a landing page or whatever you must be able to do articles so you can try blogging, blog comments and classifieds etc. wordpress.com blogger.com squidoo.com backpage.com Aritcle submission sites etc. Theres alot of stuff you can do, this site has some excellent threads on how to advertise. Be unique with the way you find stuff to link out of and promote your product etc. If there's a forum for it, find it and join it, put the link in your signature and also make sure to put it as your webpage URL in your general profile, and so on and so on. You can do alot of SEO stuff to try for real traffic, but it is of course more time consuming. PPC might be faster, but if dedicated enough you can try both.
If you have some decent writing skills, I think article marketing might work. Though a bit slow initially, once it gets running it works great
Any method that briengs money towards your way is good, even if it is blackhat or greyhat methods untill and unless you get caught. So try any method but make sure you do not get caught.
