How do you promote an article directory?

Hi!

I want to build few article directories probably using articledashboard script. Building is not a problem, but how do you go about promoting it? How to find authors that will be submitting?
Also how to boost article directory PR? Probably same way as any other website, more backlinks from all kinds of sites?

Should I accept only unique articles?

as a initial step add unique articles to your directory.

 

hire team which could submit it to other directories, contact other service providers and pay them to add your site to list or purchase banners/links on other directories. You can always find some cheap offers!!

 

You could concentrate on on-site optimisation first and on top of that, attempt to differentiate yours from the many others out there.

Otherwise no amount of backlink building or other methods will make a difference.

I bought an article directory about a year and a half ago.

I never had to promote it since it seems that many authors already used it on a regular basis.

The directory admin has the option to receive articles from two different networks. If I was starting out new, I would just accept submissions from the two networks until my site was known.

Right now I receive 250+ submissions/day directly to my site so I do not need to get more articles from a network.

Yes, sign up for article submission services like Isnare and Content Crooner. They will get you started. ( it is free )

When you start receiving articles from article submission services make sure you do not auto approve them and instead moderate every article before it gets published on your article directory. It can be time consuming but will help you to keep the overall quality of the articles in your article directory.

 

If you really have a bigger site then concentrate on on page factor rather than off page optimization and go for best content

 

You should focus on unique articles and get your directory listed in some of those well-known directory lists sites.

Go first to forums like this and people will recommend friends or other users like that ...

 

I launched my Article Directory in July 2009 I get on average 120-140 articles per day. I promoted the site by writing articles and submitting them to other directories, commenting on blogs and adding input in forums, just remember you must create informative and authoritative articles and offer value in your comments on blogs and forums otherwise it just spam.
Once your traffic builds webmasters will re-publish some of the articles on your site and if you insist in your terms of use that a "source link" be included this will automatically build quality back links, however if you're that illusive "get rich quick" plan... keep looking.

Post your articles regularly and exchange links with some other article directories. It will help you promote and have tons of visitors.

 

You can create content on Squidoo and advertise your article directory there. Also, post useful comments on other people's lenses and include your site in the signature.

The reason for doing so is that anyone who uses Squidoo most likely writes and submits articles to article directories.
