my competitors have an older domain, how do I over come this? I have more backlinks from relevant sites. It's the domain that is giving them a higher position on Google.

    Anyone know...

There is not a lot you can do really except for continuing to build up links, and write quality content. Not that I am an expert, maybe some of the more experienced member will be able to provide you with some tips.

If they have an older domain there isn't much more you can do that keep building your site and getting inbound links. With time you can overcome them.

As long as you're in the game for the long haul you'll be ok, and i'm sure if you build better content and drive more traffic to the site overtime you'll catch up. Just be patient, unfortuantely there is no magic bullet that will solve the problem for you.

Forget about the fact that they have the advantage, and do what you can in optimization. That means optimizing the site structure (URL's), anchor text, content on the page, amount of pages on your' site, internal linking and external links.

That should pretty much cover you.

I agree there is not much you can do right now. Just hope that their domain age advantage will make them complacent - this will allow you to keep building good links at a faster rate and eventually overtake them. Nothing in seo happens quickly unfortunately.

I had the same problem. For months every SEO improvement made no difference - I was number 9 for "website design bury st edmunds" no matter what I did. Then, suddenly, the filter was lifted and I'm now no 2 (occ 3 but usually 2). Good luck and don't lose heart!!
