How do you monetize your Twitter account?

I currently use Twitter as a form of advertising. I post all kinds of content on there from blog posts, forum threads, book reviews, upcoming events, and links to the ecommerce sites where people can buy my books. But I always hear people talking about how you can make money on Twitter. I don't get it. How do you monetize a Twitter account?

 

Make money from Twitter - Drive traffic to affiliate links, or sites with affiliate links or adsense.
Or sell your posts / retweets.

 

This I do ... I redirect traffic to other places. Advertising.

This is new to me. What do you mean by "sell your posts"? What posts? Your tweets? Who wants to buy that and why?

 

Its just like buying a banner ad on a busy website really. Another way to drive traffic & build accounts.
There are also ways to buy & sell likes & retweets. Anywhere there is traffic there is money.

This is like buying solo ads for email marketing campaigns. Interesting. Again, it's not something I'd ever thought of before so I appreciate the replies here to educate me on this.

now that the account is growing exponentially the traffic grows - traffic = money

  If you have a product, you can advertise this product on your channel. But maybe you have a website where people will see advertisement banners. This way you could post the link to your website on every tweet and make people more aware of your page.
