I just started a site up and I am trying to get traffic to it now. I've added links to it from some other sites and I have put a link to it in my signature on some forums. But I am looking for a little more help in getting traffic to this site. It's kind of an odd/humorous clothing site. When I searched Google for keywords for my site it showed up 5th on the first page. What else can I do to get traffic to my site, besides Google AdWords?
Instead of your target audience reaching you, you can turn it around. Give away some of the clothing items to forums or e-zines etc. Plenty of sites that run promo's where they give away some of a merchant's stuff in return for exposure. After that you will get links and traffic. There's loads of Gadget blogs out there too - maybe you can write them an article on your stuff they can use freely in return for links. eBay could be a means to an end here as well. They get loads of traffic you can tap in for cheap.
Depending on exactly what is on the clothing, you may research some popular college blogs and forums. Good place to possibly do a little advertising if that is the demographic you are aiming for.
Google is often one of the more expensive ways to get traffic. Here are some other thoughts. 1. Advertise on free traffic exchanges like Free Traffic Bar at http://www.freetrafficbar.com, Traffic Wave, or others. 2. Write articles and publish in article repositories like Idea Marketers and Go Articles. 3. Write a press release and promote it through services like PrWeb at www.prweb.com. 4. Optimize your site for search engines using information from places like Search Engine Watch at www.searchenginewatch.com or software like WebCEO. Hope this helps!
