I am just wondering how people that buy tons of links manage them? By manage I mean how do they keep track if the website owner still had that link on his site or not? Is there a software available for it?
i keep a spreadsheet, and every once and awhile (6 weeks or so), i go through it manually. if i find that an AD is "missing," i drop an email/PM. so far, i've only run into a few "situations." both were resolved without incident. LOL
I Use a PHP Script, It's check the link "missing", If it's missing, it send a email to owner of the site telling why he change the link.
Excel is great in the beginning but will soon become time consuming if you "go big" with your link building efforts. http://www.mystikmedia.com/link-checkup.asp I'm considering purchasing this program in the near future. Lets you worry about growing your business so you can work on it, not in it.
Nice find. It looks simple but useful. I will not buy it since i will develop my own program soon but i will add it to my web directory.
I use a spreadsheet that has all the details (link from, link to, link from my site, link to other site) that also works for 3 way links. I read the spreadsheet with a php that queries all those pages and looks for my link. It detects nofollow tags and nofollow meta tags and alerts me of changes (I run it manually, but I should put it in a cron job and email me the report).
I wrote it myself, because all tools I found online didn't fit my specification (most scrape backlinks from either google or yahoo, but I was only interested in links I got through exchange or purchase), or they didn't do the nofollow check or they were clunky programs that cost money ....
I didn't see it mentioned but I actually like using Outlook for links people have paid me for. I use it for links I've bought too but ofcourse it doesn't check that they're active for me. You can set the end date, contact info and alot of other stuff when purchased. You'll get a reminder of when it expires right on you desktop that you can snooze, etc. You can also export the calendar to a spreadsheet.
Our tool only manages sold links at the moment but the brought links bit should be in within this week. I think its what you're looking for, you guys are free to check it out.
Try Manage Your Links You can manage sold and reciprocal links on this site, and it keeps track of your accounting, tracks the stats of those websites that you get links from so that you can see their PR, Alexa, Outbound Links, Backlinks, and whether or not the links exists. Try it out, as its free, and really helps keep track of things. It also reminds you when you are up for renewal.
