Help a newbie! I am just starting my blog. Is it possible to make few money with the blogs i write. Is adsense only the option?
No, you can sell advertising and link space and promote affiliate products. But if you are just starting your blog you are putting the cart before the horse. Concentrate on building some decent content and therefore attracting reader and search engine attention -- then add in the money stuff. If you set up your monetization properly then it can complement your blog -- for example hand selected affiliate items -- and make it worth your while but if it looks like you set up your blog just to make adsense money then you will likely not profit greatly.
Buld up content, get some traffic to it and make sure you have a high Google PR first before thinking about making money out of it.
blogs are just like any other site...but actually often have more money making opportunities with paid posts and in post links (which are my blogs' biggest money makers)
1. Write good content. 2. Get traffic from Google. 3. Get quality backlinks. 4. Monetize your traffic (AdSense, affiliates, etc.) 5. Sell links/posts (ReviewMe, Text Link Ads, etc.)
I recommend checking out Yaro Starak's blog, he has just published free ebook called Blog Profits Blueprint, it's definitely worth checking. Also, check out problogger - lots of good stuff there. People already mentioned some ideas, and I'm listing some things I've used: - Selling Stuff via CafePress - Selling eBooks - Selling Books (CafePress or Lulu.com) - Donations - Text Link Ads - Selling links directly (like via these forums) - Google AdSense is okay... but you need to get traffic so it might not work well in the beginning - Selling posts (either directly like via these forums, or sponsoredreviews.com, reviewme.com) Besides these you could also: - use your blog to get business deals (establishing credibility and then arranging deals with companies) - consulting (if you are expert in say... dog training, you could sell "dog training phone consulting" for example) - job boards (others need to pay you $$$ to get a job posted) But I really want to remind that what zexy said in his first point (1. Write good content) - that's the real key. You have to offer something other people want and need (and put a price tag on it). Blog is merely a "medium" for getting your word out, and it really doesn't matter if you are not giving solutions. Since you have tag "programmer" in your forum signature, I suppose you could start a blog about programming - and then get people to hire you as a programmer, or sell a programming ebook, consult in programming, sell your scripts...
you might try auctionads*com too...it looks pretty good and will ad pictures of products for auction that you can get commission on.
Personally, I think adsense is the most lucrative option. Other networks can be unreliable and may not give quite as good payouts as Adsense does. Build content though, get a community together before you think about the $

John Chow has a free ebook on his blog on how he went from 0 to $10,000 a month in revenue on his blog. It's a good read.
Hey Yankee0306 - thanks for that John Chow link. I hadn't seen that before and it really is excellent advice.
