How do you know if a video is copyrighted? I know that if you lets say upload a nfl football clip that you recorded on your tv thats copyrighted but what if i upload my own funny video that i recorded. I post it on youtube.com and lets say later on i find it on bunch of other sites uploaded by other people. Do i have the right to request for the video to be taken down?

It's easiest to assume it's copyrighted, because it almost certainly is.

In the U.S. the video is copyrighted when you create it. This may be true in most places, but I can't say for sure. The purpose for filing copyright papers is not to obtain copyright, but to make it easier to defend.

That being said, if you upload the video to a site other than your own, you need to look at the policy of the site you uploaded it at. The terms of use for that site may have a clause in it that gives that site certain rights over works posted there. Even if you neglected to read the terms of use, you agreed to them by the act of uploading.

It might also depend on how the video is displayed on the other sites. If the video is being streamed from the original site, then they might not be in violation of the terms of the original site.
