How do you install a backup?

My forum isn't working(won't give out the URL because that would be useless) and I have a backup I'd like to run.

How do I go about doing this?

How did you make the backup ? What control panel are you using ? If the backup is done at the web host, maybe contacting them would help you resolve the issue.

My host is no help. Anyway, the backup is just automated and shows up in my ftp every week. I'm using cPanel(.net). Isn't there only one? :/

In the Cpanel Control Panel, you will see a 'Backups' option, click on that. Then in the 'Restore a Home Directory Backup' option click 'Browse' and select the backup file and it will restore the files from that backup.

By right, if you send the web host the backup files, they can do a quick restore just by using a few mouse clicks.

They told me to try fixing it with my own web developer first and they said if that didn't work they can do a complete restore for fifty bucks.

Thanks for the info though. I'll see if I can do it.

Okay, I looked and there's no backup option. At least I don't think so. Here's my cPanel: [IMG]

Then you would have to manually import the backup.

Unzip/Untar the backup. Upload all the files in public_html folder to public_html folder of your account.

You will see a folder called sql or so, import the databases with it.

A screenshot of the unzipped backup would help us to give the eact method.

OR alternatively you can ask your web host to restore the back as most web hosts do this for free. Its a option in root WHM.

Looks like your web host displayed the Backup option. Do you have a local backup of the site which you can restore from ?

IMHO, it might be a better option to select a web host which is more supportive of their customers.

What did you mean by supportive to their customers?

ASk your host and they'll upload it for you.

    See my previous posts.^

    Also, it's not a folder it's just a file.

I'd really have to agree with this. $50 for a restore which wouldn't even take them a mere minute is just plain ridiculous. I'd move to a more supportive host, as already mentioned, practically every host does this for free.

oops. I dint read that last 5 words.

Then I would suggest, "Switch your hosting company"

That thing can be done for free and it can be done in less than 5 minutes once uploaded.

I'd switch, don't think I haven't thought about it because I have, like everyday. It's just that they charge and arm and a leg for me to be able to transfer over to another host.
