keyword is most important part for SEO point of view. you can analysis keyword by your own knowledge i.e. which keywords are best explain your product or services. you can also go through your competitor website for keywords.
also you can use keyword research tool like:
    Google Keyword Suggestion Tool
    WordTracker
    Keyword Discovery
    Overture
you can check your keywords trends in Google trend.
it will show your keyword popularity at global search and local search.

If you are willing to invest some money, you can try Market Samurai. I found it very ideal for keyword research.

You have to remember all the tools are giving your are estimates. Some are very close to the actual numbers, like Wordtracker Keywords, but ultimately you need to verify the researched keywords with PPC.

Are you looking into buying a tool?

I have used many tools, but the obvious one is the original free google keywords tool. Notice that it rounds up values, and they are usually double the organic search value, because they include keywords searched on affiliate networks. There is also some lag in their reporting, but if you pick your country, language and the EXACT searches number, close enough is good enough. They also give an indication of competition for the words, but you can probably guess that from the kind of sites that rank highest for that word.

at the end of day its often the long tail (combination of words) that bring most traffic to your site anyway, so just keep writing around your top keywords and keep it fresh.

Google Keyword Suggestion Tool could help you.
You could also do Keyword Analysis by analyzing keywords related to your site, and what your competitors used in their websites..

Really the ultimate way is to use yahoo site explorer or some other spying tool to see your competitions work. If they are weak...take them on!

Most keyword tools take data from the google keyword tool.
Market Samurai was my favourite, but it no longer works since the last update of the google keyword tool.

The best free tool is certainly google's keyword tool.

The best way to get good keywords is to get words about your site like for example your genre or what you website is about.
