How do you get your testimonials?

Think the title says it all :)

Do you have a couple of sources you always use? Hunt out some leading lights in the industry? Ask in forums?

Just wondering as I have a product i am looking to get testimonials for and wondering how to go about it. (not IM related so this is far from a request for people to give me a testimonial for my product)

Ask? That's what most sites I work with do.

I'm thinking more in general. This one is Acai berry related and have previous customers I can turn to, but I have ideas for a few more information products in less familiar niches (ones I don't have a current customer base).

Since they are for a rather wide selection of niches there is no point covering just one area imo.

Lol, I have every intention of doing so! Intrigued to see how marketers go about finding the people to ask.

Goto a forum on your niche.... Give some of your product away for free for testimonials. You don't have to give alot away just a few.

In your support forums, if you have them, throw up a sticky post every so often and ask. Be sure to give something back though. We used to throw in a month or two of free hosting when we used to ask for them.

Tarron is right. You could give possibly giveaway your product to 3 people and
have them write testimonials for you after reviewing it.

Most people are honest and will keep your information confidential.

I've reviewed software, e-books, reports...just ask, somebody will be willing.

I pretty agree with Tarron if there is no customer base yet and you want to garner few testimonials then giving it out as freebies then let those people say something or review the product then this is the way to go.

Thanks guys, I was always going to be giving away 'review copies' of products. My interest is finding the right people to get the reviews from. If trying to find people with authority in a niche/target forum was a consideration, if forums were the only area used etc.

i.e. where do you find the people who give you your reviews?

Yeah you have to ask for a
customer's testimonial right after every order.
But I am sure if the customer like the products and if
the product or a certain service works good for him/her then
she/he will really give the testimonial even if yo don't ask them to give.
