I use GoDaddy. If you search the forums you can find coupons. Depending on what type of domain (.com, .net, .org, .co.uk, .us) it can cost around $10.

not much , if you are registering a personal kind of domain , nothing else , this is easy as flushing the toilet

i was using godaddy to register my domains and for most of my site hosting as well. but they jacked up their price for domain registration to $10 which i think is expensive. i currently register my domains thru 1&1 which is lot cheaper than godaddy

    Use a good domain registrar.

Godaddy, Namecheap, Dynadot, Domainsite, Name.com- there are plenty of them in the market.

If possible, do not register your domain through your host. You may have problems transferrring it later on.

Registering a domain is a simple process, first you need to decide what name you want and then do a Whois search to see if it is available or you can do that at the register you want to use. When you have the domain you like available then just go to your register and it will have it clear about registering. just type it into the form and follow the instructions. Once your domain name has been successfully registered then you should set the Name servers at the register to point to the ones your host gave you.

What are you searching for? Cars.com?

You can also try NameBoy.com's keyword tool.

Generic domains are LONG GONE. Unless you have a couple thousand to a couple million dollars to spend on getting one, you're going to have to stick to either a brandable/creative domain and/or 2+ keyword domains.

namecheap.com is great, right now they have free WHOIS privacy with each domain.

Don't waste time doing all the typing. Use notepad, make a list of up to 500 names and copy them. At my site, or GD, hover over domains, select bulk registration. Paste your list in. Keep or delete what you want or don't want.

If you find a good domain name make sure to register it for more than 1 year. Search engines look at how long site is registered for.
