Hi, I want to know how do you get traffic to your directory? Most from search engine or from backlinks?
Backlinks creates feeds which create indexed pages on SE's and so the process continues 365/24/7 its an ongoing program Traffic will come but it takes time
Most of the traffic is from other sites,it's hard to get traffic from SE's unless you have good content in your directory..like you have a blog and some posts are ranked very well in SE's..
In the long run, SE is your best traffic generator. However, if you're just starting it, then you should get as many backlinks as possible. You need to build your rep and gain popularity first before you can turn up on an SE's first page.
Make your website unique with useful and quality content which people find interesting to browse, probably they will bookmark and talk about in their friends circle. Become an authority site on your subject and get good backlinks from respected sites. Btw, I think site traffics depends on both. What percentage? No idea.
I think too. It is hard to get traffic from SE's. If site have good pagerank like PR5/PR6 then it will get traffic from search engine. If it have lower pagerank then it is not easy to get traffic from search engine.
It is very hard to get good targeted traffic because many of the popular search terms are highly competitive. Get a nice banner made and use adwords and buy advertising on related sites.
if you are ranked high at SEs with good keywords, you can get a good traffic. By the way, PR is not too directly reflecting on a high position at Google SERPs. PR4 or PR3 sites can rank high, depending on how competitive the niche is.
Buy lots banners, use stumble and del.icio. Get authority, mention your directory everywhere, buy forum signatures, get lots of backlinks, buy at other directories (featured), get listed at website like 43ads, yournameontoast, bigweblinks, dollarlinking.. Good luck.
Thats about everything-- With that kind of promotion one can easily hope to get few K targetted traffic/day.
The problem with adwords is that if you want terms that have a good chance for conversions you have to pay very well, $1-$5 per.
I guess I didn't consider that as a problem then But more investing = more traffic, generally speaking
Yes I agree coolsitez, most directory owners don't invest anything or very little in their directories and then they wonder why they aren't successful. Case-and-point is an interesting thread started by An0n http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=264046. Many directory owners chime in about not spending a penny or very little on promotion. I think it is probably the biggest mistake potential directory owners make (not factoring in some promotion costs).
Alot of traffic from DP and from sites where i've purchased links..My free directory alexa was like 48,000 Saad
I think purchasing links are dangerous, like forum signature links. Cause due to google can ban the site if site gets a lot of links in small time? Not sure about if they are from same domain.
