    Hi Guys,

I just did a search for my company by typing in Hotel Management International and lo and behold, it is number 3 in Yahoo. In Google, I am not finding anything even though I submitted my site to both 3 months ago.

Also, how do you get surfers to find your website based on key words. Let's say someone types in "event planning'' or ''hotel site selection'' in the search engine. How do I get my company to appear high in the ranking for those key words.

I'm sorry but I'm new to the world of SEO.

    Your help is much appreciated

    Hi there Marc,

To begin with, you can gain ground by using targeted keywords in the anchor text (link text) of your backlinks, for one. Hotel Management, for example. If you have done link exchanges already, be sure that your keywords are in your anchor text. If you notice and can locate some that are not; return to that site and politely request that they change your anchor text for you.

Build quality backlinks. It's very important in my book and has proven invaluable to us, that's for sure.

Also, it's important to have that keyword and similar ones in your meta tags if you use them, (title, keywords and description). And, also have some of the keywords in your home page's content. This will help with search engine positioning and link popularity and traffic.

If, hotelmanagementintl.com is you, on yahoo--I see that you do make use of meta tags.

Some ideas of keywords to target for your ANCHOR TEXT might be: hotel search, hotel search Canada, ect.

One thing that I noticed if this is your website, and someone correct me if I'm wrong-- I may be as I've never used ( inside my keyword meta tags-- but I do believe that some spiders do not read that at all. For example: hotel site selection, meeting planning (planner), event planning (planner). I think that the words must ideally be seperated by commas only. So you may be missing out on the indexing of some keywords by some search engines due to that in your meta keyword tags. Again, that is if this is your site.

Remember, too that it's always an ongoing process that we must tweak and test because the Internet and algorithms are fluid, and always changing. So ... so must we! Let me know if you have any questions ;)

    - cultivate inbound text links (using the keywords you want to position for in the links) from other sites and directories associated with your industry

    - as Lilly says, optimize each of your site's page's for their subject matter

    - supplement your image navigation with text link navs to their destination pages

    - get more ORIGINAL content on your site, 250 - 1500 words per page

    - purchase a tutorial to familiarize yourself with the details of SEO
