It has been said above, but social networking is a great tool to build traffic:

try creating a related facebook group and driving the users to your forum!!!

Trust me, I am promoting the forum and I do appreciate all the tips on how to promote it. The first hurdle, though, is having some posts on the forum so that when someone finds the site (via all the promoting I'm doing) they actually want to sign up for an account and respond to the posts that are already there.

I'd prefer not to use fake accounts or paid posters to do this. I signed up for the post exchange on Adminfusion that was suggested - which seems like a nice way to start things off. That's also why I asked if anyone knows of any other post exchange systems.

I run an outsourcing company and we've done board population work for clients before. As always, all client info is CONFIDENTIAL :D But... take my advice. It is the fruit of a lot of hard experience.

Interesting reading one of the posts here about getting your forum noticed in the search engines, makes a lot of sense to me if genuine users find a forum naturally because it was in the first position or at least on the first page.

Certainly, and I'm working on that, too. Hopefully by the time it hits the first page for a relevant search I'll have enough posts up to hold all the organic traffic's interest. :)

That's not a bad idea. Perhaps we could turn this thread into an area to post your forum and other forum owners can visit and post. Sort of a post exchange system on DP. It's not as nice as the automated system on Adminfusion but I'd be willing to bet there is more traffic here.

So, I signed up for one4um.com (great name, btw) as Zybron and have posted. I'll try to keep coming back and post there too.

I've mentioned it before, but my forum is at http://www.zybrononline.com. Feel free to sign up there and post. If you do, feel free to reply to this thread with your username and your own forum so I can sign up on yours.

    hi,

    this is just my opinion

real and unique content still the only way to go further (to succeed) either for your website, blog, forum or etc.

i don't think u can get this with paid posters.

i have a forum too..but in my own language and still able to get at least a member a day.

my key is, provide real informative article on site and invite visitors to forum for discussion about articles.

    that's simple.

    thanks

creatively advertise or make your forum known on every page of your site, somehow. Some niche topics of your site might make people want to ask a question about it. Of course this is hard to do in the beginning when the board has nothing but an admin, but here and there, you'll see it fill up...it just requires time & patience

    Signed up as Zybron. :)

I could definitely see a benefit here for all new forums to get some fresh new members and posts here. Keep 'em coming. I'll try to join all of them and make at least one post, hopefully more.
