How do you geotarget?

    Hi,

I currently have a complicated PHP script setup geotargetting my ads. Basically, for whatever reason, it throws an error every now and then and screws up my site.

I installed phpadnews but I can't figure out how to geotarget? I checked the site and they want me to buy some sort of IP database for $50. Am I missing something here?

    Thanks!

That looks great. Too bad it's not free, it's really overkill for geotargetting. I may pick up a license anyway.

Yeah someone bought that from you yesterday and it didn't work out very well, it's a bad script and it's pretty much a rip-off of a free script called phpAdsNew. I can help you set it up if you want, you can get it for free at http://www.phpadsnew.com. Best of luck!

I really don't know why ArcticPro is saying this , and what his alterior motives are. Dude - that was just not nice...:( I don't know to whom you are refering, and, please, if he/she has an issue, please let me know.

The accusations are totally uncalled for - it is nothing like PHPAdsnew and is not a 'rip-off'. It is much faster and much less resource intensive. I have not had any complaints from anyone, in fact I have had only positive feedback :).

If there are anyone with any concerns I would be happy to work with them. I work my backside off to make sure it works and will go out of my way to do so. I like it when I can help people out :).

That was a bit harsh. I think it was probably just something not setup right or such. I'm sure it probably works fine. Saying it's a bad script doesn't seem quite fair. It could well have been some mistake I made when setting it up before that part you helped with, and so your judgment may be not on all the facts. :) I really appreciate you helping me setup the other one. It seems to be working without any problems. So, I am all set. :) Thanks again.

That person either doesn't know what he/she is doing or did not ask for support. I bought the script, available at http://www.clippersoft.com <---I'll respam with a little marketing...;)

I haven't implemented it sitewide yet, but so far the only "problem" I had is, it's TOO EASY to use....:) And for $24.00, it's WELL worth protecting your YPN account!

What do you mean by alterior motives? I simply stated that there was a BETTER, free script that he was looking for. I have seen your script and it looks and run very similar and it has LESS features than phpAdsNew, which also has very frequent updates. But yes whatever, keep spamming your sales ads trying to make money on poorly coded scripts.

Either way, my point was, it's easy. Your experience was obviously different. I understand warning other webmasters about something to be careful about, but it seemed like you were just straight up bashing a thread. My mistake to assume that. I have a good review, you have a bad one, we're all entitled.

I searched google for geotarget phpadnews. I wasn't surprized when the NUMBER ONE result was DP.. it'd be really really great though, if somewhere in this thread, titled -- > How do you geotarget..

That question was actually answered. I realize this is a really old thread, and this will be a bump, and someone will probably get pissy about that, but it's number one for the term, and I think the bump, and eventual answer.. would be really beneficial to all those no0bs that come thru via google searches wanting to geotarget with adnews.

    :)

I'm in an affiliate program that has about 10 different countries, will these geotargetting scripts adjust the offer to the country of the user?

I downloaded the ip2nation scripts, I can't find any instructions on how to use it..
Where would I insert this into my page?
Do you use the sample scripts online? or do you use the downloadable script?

so one of the lines in the script is
    INSERT INTO ip2nation (ip, country) VALUES(0, 'us');

Do I just put the affiliate offer
INSERT INTO ip2nation (ip, country) VALUES(0, 'us'); www.myaffiliateoffer3412.com

Sorry I didn't realize this was a Yahoo publisher thread. Can these sites be used for any affiliate program?

You can use mySimpleAds or openads to geo-target any type of ad - YPN, Google, banners, links, etc...

Upgrade your phpadsnew to the latest version of OpenX (the name has been changed to phpadsnew).
You would need to purchase an IP address database component to add to your script.

openx is free, includes a free IP-country database, and is very efficient in what it does on even busy websites.

Did I mention the word: free?

    Google: openx geotargeting.
