I've been doing a lot of research on buying and selling websites, and am currently in the process of trying to sell my first site. It's listed here, but I'm wondering what would be good ways to find buyers interested in a niche like avatar communities?
Your BIN seems awful high for the site you're selling. Also you said for your PR, "(will go up on the next update)", you can't be certain that will happen. I'd list the site for sale at SitePoint also.
After looking at a variety of factors, 10k seemed reasonable, mostly because it will be really easy for the future owner to make that back in just a few months. What would you value it at?
You can't base the value of a site so much on what it might possibly make in the future. Personally I'd value it at $1,500 - $2,500.
The $1,500 to $2,500 estimate is probably accurate, though I would guess it to be the high end. It is relatively easy to create a site with lots of potential. The hard part is getting it there. You may find someone to pay a premium but I think your minimum bid is probably above the value of the site. Tom
Be careful, your site is nowhere near 5,5k the guy will probably just rip you off (the potential buyer). People tend to really badly overvalue their own sites cause they see all this potential. Well guess what you don't sell potential you sell a website! True you can figure this stuff in to some extend, but in the end what really determines value is well value in form of revenue. If you wanna sell the site for 6k, push the site till it makes at least $800 a month.
I wish I had the time. Unfortunately with uni starting back up and me looking for an internship I won't have the time. You told the guy I will only accept escrow.com, if he's serious that will protect me, no? If not, You think the site is worth 2.8k then? Thanks for all the advice. It's the first time selling a website on my behalf, so I'm still learning all of this
Well basically for everything below 1k monthly revenue I would go like 8 times-ish monthly revenue. once you hit 1k+ 10 times+. And yeah good idea with escrow btw. always worked fine for me.
