How Do You Feel About .me Domain Extensions?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by Sabrina73, Feb 24, 2014.

I am starting another website and I reserved a .me and a .net. The .com was already taken. Quite frankly, I'm not sure how I feel about the .me domain extension, even though I paid nearly $30 for it. How do you feel about .me domain extensions?

It depends on for what purpose you are developing website. For SEO purpose & general business related websites, .net would be better to use.
.me has specific use, like (firstname).me, or verb related domains like love.me, choose.me.

I like them for personal promotion - lets say you were a real estate agent - JoeBloggs.me would be a perfect showcase. Crap for corporate sites though, or product sites unless by chance their name ended in me such as ac.me but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Since you've already reserved a .net, if it's a business website you should probably use that.

It won't be a big hit like the .com or .Net

Suppose if there is already a XYZ.com what is the use of you having the same XYZ.me ... there is less chance that Google will not put you on front page

Like Sarahk Said, .me is best for personal websites, .net is better for business. :)

Whenever in doubt, just go with your 2nd choice .com lol. It's the safer bet.

Thanks for all of your help. I went back to the drawing board and did a small survey of my target market, which is ages 18-26. Most of them overwhelmingly said .me.

If you don't mind me asking, how was the survey done? As in, did they know YOU were the one administering it, or was it completely blind?

I administered it. It wasn't scientific.

I figure if you like the domain enough and the idea behind it, you can never go wrong. If you have an audience that will actively participate in a survey, than you must be doing something right. :)

    Thanks!

I also asked them why... and they said cause it's "me," as in .me.

It made sense to me (no pun intended!)

I still have the .net. I can change it later or have it forwarded if I want.

Since .com wasn't available I think the next best choice is .net. Seems more recognizable and popular than .me. I'm surprised at your survey results but it also depends on the website content I guess.

lol. I really don't care much for .nets, especially from a branding perspective. Ik, ik, ik, google treats all extensions the same, but that hasn't always been the case with me. That's my only *personal* reservation with going with the .me over a more widely accepted extension.

net is probably the safer bet although if you use me and fill it with relevant content it should still rank the same (allegedly)

Short and meaningful .me names rule. So many startups using them.

.me grew because of the similarity of the english word, the excellent marketing team of .me cctld and registrars like GD that fanatically supported it. I sold one LLL.me for $2500 before few months and i do have few others so i'm certainly not against it, still not my 1st selection
