How do you explain what you do for a living online to others?

Webmaster sounds like you are a slave or something LOL

I need a better title.

 

If i start off with a description including a verb as my title, then that means i would have to explain what I do. I need a good sounding title.

 

I usually just tell them that I am a web designer, which I am (but also do other work online). After which they don't usually ask many more questions about it.

 

Say you are a web freelancer. It doesnt sound at all 'dorky'

 

when i tell my friends im a domainer they are like what the hell is that? I'm 17
Then i try to explain what it is and after im done their like "so you own google"

It's funny as hell!!

 

Domainer? Ive never heard of that.

 

self-employed? online business? Oversea earnings, the tax men must love you guys dont pay tax then are you really self employed? i see this EVERY day members saying they own a online business but in reality very few do~

Why dont you just ask them what they do? then ask questions before they ask you a question and when they get around to asking you what you do just say meh this and that. If the person is not close and its chit chat i love to let the talk =)

 

if people ask me i just say a tiler as thats what i am

 

What do I do? I explain it over and over to them and they still don't understand what I'm selling. They ask about every month. It's hilarious!

I don't bother to go into details to explain. I think some people believe that I do online porn or something (I don't).

 

I tried explaining one of parents friend.she is an old lady.After an hour of explaining with pen and paper.She just says so you earn by sitting on the internet and in frustration i said yes and she said let me sit in front of your pc for an hour and see whether i earn or what.She actually sat there half an hour and said i knew you were joking and I said yes i was joking.

After that I have sweared never to explain this to anyone.

yeah i think that seems to be the best answer so far because EVERYONE can understand what that means. Plus it sounds like you are doing something productive. Webmaster just sounds weird to me.

Besides web designer can explain webmaster cause you do have to design and create your site yourself (at least I do).

 

Yeah.. I know.. Web designer would sound something like IT or something
