I've spent the whole day trying to calculate of any of my campaigns will make a profit. Multiplying ctr and conversion rates, and all sorts of crap, and every time the math says I will not make a profit.
How do you make money when using search marketing to advertise your affiliate offers???
    Thanks a ton guys. :)

There's a small chance to make profit from PPC advertising if you're promoting affiliate stuff. Improve your chances by selecting the REVS (or revenue share) option in your affiliate account; this way, you will probably earn a percent every month from your refferal's spendings, and so your total earnings will be greater than the costs (with the PPC campaign).

As an affiliate, you have two income options:

    1. PPS - pay per sale (a one time fixed amount of money which is credited to your account every time you send a new customer to the main website)

    2. REVS - revenue share (a percent of the total monthly spendings or membership fees applied to the customer you had previously sent to the main website; this percent is 30% to 50%)

So, before choosing which banner or text link you wish to promote on your website, choose the REVS option.

    Man...

Dude, don't start off with PPC... You're gonna loose your house if you don't even know what pps and revs are... I have a secret for you that I use to make money with affiliate marketing everyday:

    ACTION!

Get the hell off this forum and start putting things into action.. don't spend your day reading and analyzing.. put what you know into action.

    period.

How can he do that if he doesn't know enough TO put it into action?

Zachdaman, if you are talking about advertising on search engines, you may want to consider not doing them. Everybody and their brother does it.

Unless you have something that most do not sell.

Instead, think about putting your ads in other webmasters' sites, in addition to advertising outside the net, like in newspapers and magazines.

If you think hard enough, I'm sure you can recall seeing such ads. Many of them are affiliates.

Create some ads, get them critiqued, along with your site, and go from there.

it's all about dedication to the project you're working on.

but in a simple way it looks like this:

    1. make a website which will sell and optimize it.
    2. generate backlinks, 30-50 a day, every day
    3. don't stop

Yes i do agree with you. The dedication is key to success. just read a lot until you understand whole process. dont seat after that and start to put in action. try every way which you feel to be good for you. forget others and have some thing unique. you will rock definitely

As far as learning the affiliate thing what you need to do is start with an SEO type of affiliate campaign as well as article writing. This will help you start learning the whole affiliate industry. Don't believe everything you read on this blogs because some of these guys are making good money doing it but many others are not. As well many of them have set up websites themselves and do non-branding affiliate with large advertising and SEO campaigns meaning it looks like they are direct selling. You can make money with the traditional landing page but many people are starting to catch on to these.

If keeping your shirt, car, and house and you're new to all this PPC is not where you want to be!

One of the best ways to get going that is very cost effective is through article marketing. After all the web is always going to be about content. So if you can write chances are you can earn a living providing quality content!

    Best of luck.

starting out with ppc advertising is never a good idea if you don't understand
how to target buyers to keep your costs down and also about quality score
    and landing page optimization.

I would stress to avoid ppc unless you have bought a good quality ebook or
hardback book on the subject, I tried it first around year and a half ago and
lost $100+ not much but I didn't see any return or sales from that which made
me think that there was no money to be made as an affiliate but now I am
    ok with adwords.

I still wouldn't say I am an expert at adwords but I can generate easy sales
    from them in certain niches.

The easiest way is by promoting it at PPC service such as Adwords and the likes but it won't yield any return if you aren't going to find where your products will convert best.

the best option for anyone is doing SEO since it is just free and this is for a lifetime.

Probably not the right thread, but how do you get 30-50 backlinks a day? And how do you do it without raising a red flag at Google?

Never jump into PPC unless you know what you are doing.. that's a lesson that I have learned the hard way

Since you are already using PPC, why don't your try site(or placement) targeting for some time? The cost will be a fraction of what it is on a full blown PPC campaign.. see if that works for you ...

Don't go with PPC. Try to get traffic by mentioning your website on forums, blogs, and buying ads on other websites for a flat fee.

PPC is okay as long as you're hitting the right demand
