how do you "dim lights" around a video

How do you get "the lights" to dim around a video?

I've seen a couple of sites where the area around the video becomes dark and the rest of the page disappears, and reappears when the mouse is moved.

I'm using the windows media player for my site and was wondering if this is possible.

    Thanks

Not sure what you mean - could you be referring to lytebox windows?

    Isn't lytebox for pictures?

hulu.com has it where you click "lower lights" and the area around the video goes dark.

Sometimes this can be seen on YouTube as well. I am also curious how to achieve that, though not for video, would like to implement that somewhere else. I am almost sure its Javascript, but the question remains ... how? :)
