How do you delete part of an image in Fireworks?

    I have a marquee around the part of the image I want to delete, but how do I delete it, I went back to the pointer tool but when I click on it, it would not do anything

    there are many ways:
    - if you have part of a bitmap selected, you can just simply hit the delete key.
    - if you create a path of the part you want to delete and paste your image inside that path, your image will be masked and look deleted. you can rasterize this by SHIFT+ALT+CTRL+Z to make the delete permanent. this is a great technique for cutting people and objects out of a background.
    - you can draw or create a path or object and then set it's view to "erase" and it will erase down to the background layer.
    - you can use the eraser tool (e)
