As everyone said before quality unique content with CONSISTENT updates. I cannot stress how important the consistency is to good rankings. Also put the dates of post or page creation in your meta data as G will pick up on this and it DOES effect your rankings as newer content is usually more relevant. Also, if you are going up against some big time corporations you will probably never beat them out especially if the keywords are products they are known for selling/producing. Maybe it would be better to start a new site.
