What is the best way to choose the color scheme for your site? are there any general guidelines to follow?? I have been trying to restructure a site with new more fresh colors but Im so horrible with choosing what colors to go where and sticking to just one color palette ... The colors I ve been gravitating towards just havent been working... heeeeelp
Hi Use Web 2.0 Look and feel for your website if you are re-designing your website.White background with red header and footer is also a good color combination.Use any 2 matching colors for design. Thanks
And mans can`t design or what ? Try to understand what your design want to send to visitors. Search and read some color theory articles and choose from there. Next use the tool who I told you to find matches.
I never knew, that as a woman, I had a color wheel in my head. WOW! Usually I just google things like "color schemes" or "color wheels" or whatever.. just to get an idea. Honestly I use a lot of looking around and seeing things near me to get a good idea.
buy a bookk called The Web Designers Idea Book, it's only a few quid, it's thw best place I've found for inspiration . .
3 level of colors use to be a good aim. black gray white scales.. plus a clear blue / red with green or maybe orange details. and dont add more colors than needed, woodstock is over see link below for more tips
You cannot ever get the colors right, if you are choosing them yourself. but i used a few color mixers and tools from design sites . . you cant get it from there. or here or what i say or anyone. YOU pick some colors. yeah, you do it. fu#ck color mixers trust yourself. look at other sites and what colors they use. personally, i hate trying to find good color combos. it is not a formula. if it was there would be a book explaining the facts. there aren't any. brown and orange are a disgusting combo. ask A&W. it is purely subjective. no one ever tells you that. i really hope some design students argue here.
Sorry everyone, but this is the most important subject to design. why don't you explain how you choose colors. it is intuitive, isn't it? this is possibly the most important subject. 'colors' should be a sub forum in itself. I wonder how many people agree. actually, colors are more important than words. the first thing you see when a page opens, isn't it?
I agree that colors do create an overall impact on the website, if you wanna make something catchy you go in for bright colors, and if its informative you go in for subtle colors. Every color has to say something, red gives a hot feeling, green is cool, blue color combinations are used mostly in corporate sites..and I am still learning about colors..
My favorite color picker is http://visibone.com/colorlab/. Their interactive color picker allowed you to click on various colors and see how they work in combination..
