How Do You Charge SEO Service?

I'm a web designer and I also offer web hosting to my clients. Most of them are local business owners. However, I would like to see them succeed and offer SEO services as well to put them on page 1 of google for their keywords.

My question is this, if I were to offer SEO services, how do I charge them? Is it a one time payment thing or monthly fee?

    Thanks in advance

It depends on your experience in this area, I don't recommend to get monthly fee. Those positions in a 1t Google likes a fake. So you better to get an initial fee, I charge for dofollow blog comments $1/Page rank. That's an idea for you.
    Good luck

Most people charge an annual or quarterly fee for SEO services. I think nickle and diming your clients ($1 per link, for example) is unprofessional and most people that are looking for SEO services don't know enough about SEO to understand why they would be paying $1 for a "link" anyhow.

I agree with vicious here. Don't complicated things up. You can charge them on annual or monthly or quarter year payments. All you have to do is get good backlinks with hyperlinked keywords to their website at moderate. Don't overdo it as it may get your client caught in spam net.

Best thing to do is talk with your customers and see what they require and then come up with a suitable plan to achieve their required results and work out what it will cost to achieve them.

So if what they require would cost you say $100 to acheive then charge your clients $150

Usually there's a one time payment for a complete audit of their site - which should cover technical build, content, backlinks, an examination of whatever tracking package is being used, competitors. - this should provide the plan for future work and recommendations, which is usually charged for monthly.

I charge clients a maintenance contract every month and I do a little bit here and there. I make sure the sites change and add content and links monthly.

I only have a few clients as I work full time with seo on all my own sites. But its a good business if you can build your clients up monthly, it means you can sit back and relax.

Price depends on what work is required and the competition for the required keywords.

We also offer services that have fixed prices.

    Thanks Brian

i would split the work into two groups - on-site and off-site (link building)

You can charge whatever you want bringing a site up to scratch, ensuring the document flow is correct, the markup is valid etc etc etc. As for link building, I would charge per link. There is no harm in educating your client in this area in fact, I think this helps as it shows you know what you are doing. Charge whatever you want per link, and provide your client with a report at the end. This way the client knows exactly what they are getting for their money.

Most importantly though - make sure your client is aware that you cannot promise top rankings!

Thanks guys for your thoughts. There are a lot of factors and some of them require a monthly fee and some of them are just one time payment. I'm clueless at first but now I got a good idea of how SEO business is done thanks to all of you.
