How do you buy domains off someone?

So, there are plenty of people selling domain names for cheap on the Internet, and there are plenty of people buying them. How does it work? I would like to buy a few (and sell them on), but I am confused as to what happens. Thanks for your time :)

General process goes like this. Buyer pays you. You then proceed to push the domain name to their account at the same registrar (easiest method). Sometimes the buyer will want the domain transferred to a different registrar they currently have all their domains with, which complicates things a little.

I will be the buyer, but I will not be using the domain name (am going to sell them off within the day). Could you please give me more details about this 'registrar' you talk of? I have my own website with both domain & hosting (shown in my sig), I also have another domain name which I bought off Daily.co.uk...

I use GoDaddy.com and MyDomain.com as registrars for my domains. Both companies are cheap and reputable.

You will have to get an account with the same registrar that the person who owns the name has the name with. Usually free. That person then is able to push the domain (most cases) at no cost to your account and you can control. If you want to send it to another registrar it takes a few days and you will not be able to do anything to the ownership for 60 days. Most people wait 60 days (IMO) before they sell a domain for this reason.

Depending on the registrar you might be able to. you just have to keep it at that registrar. Who (Registrar) is the domain with now? Ask them their tranfer policies. SOme are more liberal than others. ALL registrars must wait 60 days before they can send it to another registrar though.
