So I read a lot of gripes about ebay lately. And I got to thinking... can ebay be beaten? I want to know because I started an ebay alternative site about a year ago, but I stopped due to lack of time. With the recent discussions I've read, the ebay hate is widespread, and one site even have a rally to stop buying/selling on ebay for day. (probably won't work). Anyhow, lets get down to the issue and share tips. What do you guys think are some ways to beat ebay? To get the discussions going, here are ebay's strong points: ebay has a HUGE community - and that large audience is hard to convince to switch loyal customers - it's safe to say that there are a lot of hate among buyers/sellers yet you have to admit that the huge audience is why they remain loyal (seller's items are sure to get an audience, and buyers are sure to find stuff they want) easy payment system w/ paypal - safe and secure, for the most part Anything else anyone want to add?
Rally all the haters and get them involved somehow in the release of an alternative site. Aside from that, you will need a HUGE marketing budget. A good PR campaign about how the community is banding together (because they are sick of eBay) to develop a competitive site might also work and catch the attention of the media.
well it's really hard to beat ebay but the only way to beat it by making a site also that is like ebay
