How Do you backup your important files on the comp? I was thinking of getting an external drive for this, but I suppose need some kind of soft to do this automatically. Any suggestions?
I am using mozy backup. I always end up filling up my externals. Also, externals don't protect you against fire and theft.
I lost EVERYTHING in the late 90s to a hard drive crash, and learnt my lesson the hard way. As far as backup software goes, I use SecondCopy. I've been using it for years and LOVE IT. - I backup DAILY (on shutdown) to 2 internal backup drives. - I backup WEEKLY to 2 external drives. - I keep one external drive at my parents house, and the other external drive locked in a safe at home. All backups are stored in TrueCrypt containers. I also occasionally make DVD archives of stuff I'm working ON, just so I can label and archive them.
yeah I'm planning to do something like that. How durable are these disks? I'd rather have the backups at home than use some online service. Truecrypt seems useful also, gotta have it installed there
Good idea. And that is cheap at only $100. I have lost my files twice due to a virus and this would be great to have.
I have two 500GB WD external drives. Both of them have the same stuff stored on them, but I try to keep them in different locations so that if something does happen (stolen, fire, etc.) to one I can use the other to restore everything.
external hard drive back up is the best option, as if in case the data is being deleted from the current hard drive then in that case the data will be safe in the other hard drive Another way can be to use the data recovery software which can create the image of the data there in the hard drive and that too in a compatible mode so in that case the data will be kept for backup for the future use
Anything I would want really secure is never hooked onto the net. Transfer info other ways. Online backups and small external storage. Mostly every thing I use is stored and hosted by servers and main frames in good Ole sunny California anyway! Those running their own servers need server backups.
You can take any types of back up in different options like if you need to make some back up of files or data then you need a harddisk like CD,DVD ,USB ,or HARDdisk,is you need the electricity you need a UPS or a rechargeable battery. chandan,,
Mostly I take my backup in DVD's. I have 600GB + data in DVD's. But now I plan to buy 1 x 3 TB External Drive may cost around $240.
i have Qnap to back up my file, this a good hardware to backup your important file we can schedule to automatic backup....
I take backup on the external hard drive, I sometimes backup my movies on DVD too but software I always use hard drive
