Say you find a business, you check out their site and realize its getting good traffic and the business is doing good but their website is just bad, and you believe you can design and develop a good site that can help their business. How would you approach this client without trying to sound like your spamming them, what kind of email would you send? Thanks.
I would let them how exactly how I can help their business. Appear genuine and friendly in the email or on the phone, not like a salesman.
this year in psychology, we learnt that there are several ways of marketing that many customer will approach in the same way, for example if you ask for a high price first, let's say X price, and then reduce the price to Y, they will more likely buy the product than putting the price as Y directly. Another thing they taught, which is about this topic, is that first you give them the message in a terrifying way, like, you have a wonderful website but the design will not take you far, and after presenting them the problem, you offer a solution. That's another strategy that they taught us this year=) Try to get their confidence by being HONEST and then offer them a solution.
Sneak up from behind... Seriously, you can only point out what you have said. "you have a great xyz, but I could really help you by improving yzx" If you can put things into numbers it really helps. You can increase their traffic by x or their conversions by x then you have an easy sell - as long as you can back it up. Offer referrals that will vouch for you. Hope this helps.
If he is getting good traffic and his business is good, the odds are that he will not listen to you. Hell, most people, whether their business is good or it is going down the toilet, will not listen to advice, suggestions. Before sending him an e-mail, you may want to think about creating one of his pages in his site to where you think it will be better. Then send him an e-mail, along with the link. He will click on it out of curiosity. What is the url? Just out of curiosity.
Personally I would call them, especially if it's a local business as they may want to meet with you in person to discuss what you can do to improve their business. You would have a higher success rate with that method in my opinion. If you do not like calling then sure an email would be fine, ofcourse it has to sound professional as not to seem spammy as you stated. You can email alot more companies quicker than phoning them so the more emails you send to these companies the better chance of gaining clients you will have.
honestly its not for a specific client really , its just i run into many local companies that have really bad sites.
You can approach them in a nice way which sounds trying to help. You can tell them that their business will be more successful and good with your proposal.
The absolute best thing you can do to get a client to listen to you is to find a contact/link to the company. This is especially true in my core business of industrial automation. Nobody hires us unless someone knows us. If you can find someone you know in the company to introduce you, your credibility goes way up. It goes way up if you can find a friend of a friend. To a lesser extent, if you can get someone that has some type of interface with the company to let you drop their name you have a decent chance of getting a listen.
