I am helping a company to scan some physical documents and storing the images on a web server. But the problem is that new documents will be added almost everyday and I can't archive the old ones because people need to refer them back. So how do I create an innovative solution to make an indicator so that I know where I have scanned up to???

i will suggest to make a master list and remark scanned once you done together with the date and document revision (if any)
Then, you just need to continue on scanning the old document and check back any update or new document once all the old document was done.

you can use image processing if project cost is not an issue. you can find very best accurate image processing software from market. with using that software you can scan all image and all image will get one unique no. second time if this image match than it will not save and it will alert that this photo is already saved. if you need more solution than you can pm me so i can explain more in technically.
