If the rude person is actively souring my experience or hurting someone else, especially someone weak, I will intervene. But I've got my own share of stupidity, ignorance, and selfishness to worry about rather than fretting over everyone else's.
It depends on the situation. I'm generally pleasant and polite to customers, unless they start swearing at me then I politely ask them to ...erm... be quiet and let me speak, with a warning that if they continue with their abusiveness; they will get hung up on. This generally will bring them around and I can assist them normally. I have hung up on these types though, with managements blessing - I've actually been monitored during this kind of call. I try to avoid it. If it's on the street; again depends on the situation. I generally don't get rude with other customer service people - been there done that - with 3 exceptions that had to do with my son. In those situations; I blew my stack. Badly. In one incident; I actually had the employee fired; and 2 others were prescription/drugstore issues that 1) damn near overdosed my kid. 2) was a refusal of my prescription - when I had the prescription right there. In all 3 cases; I was lacking in sleep (emergency room) and contacted the ceos of all 3 companies. In 2 of the cases; I've not stepped foot in the establishment again. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

oh c'mon CHERRY I couldn't do that here... I'd have to get nude in front of my webcam first, and I got two 2-4 year old kids playing in the background. That just wouldn't look good - imagine their questions if you can No, I'm afraid I'll just have stick with the rude section here. This - at least - can be done in front of the kids for a couple of years more

I think it depends on the situation. But most of time I will ignore them because I don't want to waste my time listening to them
