Hello, I have a website that has been live since mid November. I started establishing links around December and I now have close to 350 links established. My question is related to the top three websites in my industry and how they can have so many links? They currently have 7000, 25,000, and 35,000. There must be something happening here that I'm unaware of since at my current rate it would take me 20+ years to have the level of links these three have and they have only been around for 3 to 5 years. Any words of wisdom to help the new guy? Thanks
Directory and article submissions can bring a lot of links. I don't know what industry it is but there are ways to get a ton of links. For example, with myspace resource sites every image that people use from your site will have a link back from their profile/website to your site =) Also if the website is just that good people will link from all over. And one more thing, focus on quality rather than quantity when it comes to links. Annd also check to see that they aren't using any blackhat techniques
have you looked "directories forum" and "Solicitations & Announcements forum" on dp. they great resourse to start link building. for example there is a great list of free directories on http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=315153
Word Press Theme sponsorship is another "Trick". A Bad Ass theme will be downloaded and used hundreds, even thousands of times over months and years.
Some of the top ranking sites usually have a very high PR and are big portals. The sites which are ranking high must be having thousands of pages, which also count as backlinks on Search Engines like Google etc. Do a search for site:www.competitorurl.com on Google and see the number of pages of that site. Then see if they have any sub-domains and how many pages the sub-domains have. Also study their backlinks and you'll see that some of the backlinks also include their internal pages.
